The Executive Board recommends that all technicians previously certified update their certifications that are older than 5 years.

School Bus Safety Inspection

First day class covering 191 page inspection manual. Second day open book test with hands on inspection of a school bus. Certificate given with specific number. This class requires recertification every 7 years.

Air Brake Certification
​Length: 1 day​
Class: Presented by private industry.​
Test: The test is given by TASBT including general knowledge, component ID and hands on.

Certificate given with specific number. This class requires recertification every 7 years. The course includes air brakes and some information on anti-lock air brake systems. Technicians have to assemble and disassemble foundation brakes, check tolerances on brake drums and S-cam clearances. They also have to identify air brake system components.

School Bus Body Electrical
Length: 1 day
Class: Presented by TASBT Instructors.

Certificate given with specific number. The course includes basic electrical circuits, multimeter usage and electrical schematics. Technician takes a test on general knowledge, schematic symbols and hands on. This class requires recertification every 7 years.

Certificate given with specific number. This class requires recertification every 7 years. The course includes basic air conditioning for large vehicles. Technicians have to identify components and equipment. The test is general knowledge and hands on.
